Ar. By the foole multitude that choose by show,
Ar. Not learning more then the fond eye doth teach,
Ar. Which pries not to th'interior, but like the Martlet
Ar. Builds in the weather on the outward wall,
Ar. Euen in the force and rode of casualtie.
Ar. I will not choose what many men desire,
Ar. Because I will not iumpe with common spirits,
Ar. And ranke me with the barbarous multitudes.
Ar. Why then to thee thou Siluer treasure house,
Ar. Tell me once more, what title thou doost beare;
Ar. Who chooseth me shall get as much as he deserues:
Ar. And well said too; for who shall goe about
Ar. To cosen Fortune, and be honourable
Ar. Without the stampe of merrit, let none presume
Ar. To weare an vndeserued dignitie:
Ar. O that estates, degrees, and offices,
Ar. Were not deriu'd corruptly, and that cleare honour
Ar. Were purchast by the merrit of the wearer;
Ar. How many then should couer that stand bare?
Ar. How many be commanded that command?
